About Eugene

The Peter DeFazio Footbridge

There’s a lot to love about Lane County. It’s renowned for the beauty of its valleys, mountains, beaches, and rivers and for the diversity of its wetlands and wildlife. Lane County’s agricultural land produces some of our country’s best wines, fruits and vegetables, and grains. And at the heart of Lane County is the vital, growing community of Eugene/Springfield, whose residents and visitors cherish its pleasant climate, natural beauty, and cultural diversity.

Winding through Eugene/Springfield are the Willamette and McKenzie Rivers. The Willamette is bordered by a beautiful greenway that boasts four bike/pedestrian bridges that connect both banks of the river and create a popular, centrally located greenbelt for walkers and cyclists. Visitors and residents who enjoy hiking, picnicking, canoeing, fishing, and relaxing along its pristine banks frequent the McKenzie, a much–loved river connecting the valley to the Cascades.

Within a short drive of Eugene/Springfield, there are five recreational reservoirs, a multitude of beautiful streams and waterfalls, lush forests, backpacking trails, ski resorts, and campgrounds. Historic Oregon towns nearby have been lovingly restored and provide an easy–to–reach source of cultural education and enjoyment. And the Oregon coast, renowned for its breathtaking beauty, is less than an hour’s drive away.

Sports are popular here; high school and university football, soccer, basketball, and track and field events are always well attended. Eugene is also home to outstanding educational institutions, including the University of Oregon, Lane Community College, and Northwest Christian College.

Eugene is a small town rich in culture. Saturday Market, Art & The Vineyard, The Eugene Celebration, The Bach Festival, museums, theater groups, and a multitude of diverse bands and music venues present just a few of the opportunities to enjoy the city’s culture.
