Housing, commerce to spring up along Crescent

The latest project on land dealer Arlie & Co.'s drawing board is a housing/retail/office complex on the north Eugene spot where Peace Health Oregon last year thought of putting its new hospital.

In a meeting with nearby homeowners earlier this month, Arlie's development director, Larry Reed, outlined plans for three- to four- story apartment buildings, plus medical offices and a shopping strip that would include a small grocery store, said Stacie Mount, who lives in a subdivision east of the Arlie tract. Mount led neighborhood opposition to Peace Health's plan to put a large hospital on the property last year.

Under the Coburg-Crescent refinement plan - the government- approved growth blueprint for the area - about three acres at the western edge of the Arlie site, at the Coburg-Crescent intersection, can be developed with offices. The rest is for high-density multifamily housing. The refinement plan encourages "neighborhood commercial" clusters within residential tracts.

Crescent Village is beautifully landscaped with gardens that also act as bio-swales. These lush gardens treat the storm water on site, before it goes into our local rivers.
